BUILDING FROM SOURCE CODE

Source code (lrCompare.cc and raw2jpg.cc) is provided in the Source folder.

INSTALLATION

You must install ImageMagick (https://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php). During the installation, be sure to Install legacy utilities (e.g. convert); raw2jpg uses the convert.exe utility. The convert.exe file is normally installed inside the ImageMagick folder in C:\Program Files (x86).

If you want to create MPO files, you must install Strawberry Perl (http://strawberryperl.com). After installing Strawberry Perl, you must install the JPEG Libraries by opening a cmd window and typing:

	cpan Image::MetaData::JPEG

lrCompare.exe and raw2jpg.exe should be copied to C:\Windows\System32 .

lrCompare.cmd, raw2jpg.cmd, and mpo.pl should be copied to the new folder you will create in the next section.

On the Mac, the Finder displays preview images for Photoshop (PSD) files, raw files and MPO files. Although Windows Explorer does display preview images for JPEG files, it does not display preview images for Photoshop (PSD) files, raw files or MPO files. The FastPictureViewer Codec Pack (http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs) is inexpensive software for Windows that adds fast thumbnail and preview support for Photoshop (PSD) files, raw files, and other formats. It is also possible to update the Windows Registry so that it will display thumbnails for MPO files; instructions and downloads are available from http://myplace.frontier.com/~don.munsil/MPO_registry.html.

SETUP

Create a new folder. You may place this folder wherever it is convenient, and give it the name of your choice. For example, you might create a folder named photos and place it on your Desktop. In this folder, place the following items:

•	A new folder named Raw-Left. You will place raw files imported from your left camera in this folder.
•	A new folder named Raw-Right. You will place raw files imported from your right camera in this folder.
•	A new folder named JPG-Left-Right. The software will place converted JPG files from both the left and right camera in this folder.
•	A new folder named MPO. The software will place created MPO files in this folder, if you request that MPO files be created.
•	lrCompare.cmd (supplied).
•	raw2jpg.cmd (supplied).
•	mpo.pl (supplied).
•	exiftool.exe (download from https://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool).

Edit the lrCompare.cmd and raw2jpg.cmd files if you wish to change any of the options. For example, one of the comments in raw2jpg.cmd explains what to change if you do not wish to create MPO files.

USAGE

Double click lrCompare.cmd to launch the lrCompare utility. Be sure to run lrCompare prior to running raw2jpg.

Double click the raw2jpg.cmd to launch the raw2jpg utility. In order to minimize processing time, raw2jpg uses the creation or modification date of each file to determine what operations are required, and to perform only the required operations.

If you make changes to a raw file and save the changes as a Photoshop (PSD) file with the same name and in the same folder as the raw file, raw2jpg will use the newer PSD file rather than the older raw file. If the JPG file already exists and is newer than the raw or PSD file, raw2jpg will skip that file. Likewise, if an MPO file already esists and is newer than both the left and the right JPG files, raw2jpg will skip that file.
